Always Like The First Time


Sometimes you can be truly surprised and shocked to find that what you think about something isn't what you're going to get. Oddly enough, that's also one of the premises of the book Always Like The First Time, a thoroughly delightful book that turned out to be a great read.

I ever finally learned that I had the 'tense' of the title incorrect in my mind; I didn't see it until I read how she defined the word "like", or, rather, talked about it. She states that we have the right to either "like" or "not like", and that it directs one's energy either positively or negatively. If we learned how to think differently, how to maintain a positive inner pleasurable flow, we all can learn to "like" the first time, or the initial time, or come to something from the direction of seeing the good before seeing the bad. That's pretty powerful stuff, if you ask me.

The author, Kathryn Pape, tells us about coming to learn how to channel her thoughts and minds in positive ways by using what she calls "inner chromotology", kinesiology, and something else she calls "human energy conservation". She guides us through these teachings initially by telling us her thoughts through tales of her youngest son, who had cancer and didn't survive. Yet, hers isn't a tale of woe or sadness; it's a tale of positive thoughts, positive living, and positive feelings.

Let's look a bit further at some of her thoughts. When she talks about human energy conservation, she lists five principles that she highlights with stories:

  1. No one tapes/thinks in your mind but you
  2. Your thoughts drive and direct your energy
  3. You feel your thoughts
  4. Positive thoughts create patience and time
  5. Influence is an opportunity; you are your cause

She also talks about belief systems while sharing a letter she wrote to her father in law, and then goes into what she calls the seven joyous traits of inner pleasure: attitude, belief, courage, endurance, confidence, sense of direction (intuition) and gratitude. She gives great insight into each one of these, and how they help to guide us all towards inner peace.

Always Like The First Time is a very easy and quick read. I wasn't sure what I was in for before I read it, but it's a wonderful little book that I recommend anyone looking for a positive mind shift read.
