Multiple Streams of
Internet Income
With
Multiple Streams of Internet Income by Robert G. Allen, Mr. Allen moves out of the realm of what he's known for, real
estate, into the world of online sales. I read this book twice, and both times came away with this feeling that I was missing
something.
That thing I was missing was this sense of not being able to find myself in any of the concepts that he highlights. I say it that
way because, as with many of his books, at least half of what one is reading aren't his words, but the words of contributors to
the cause, or so it seems. And that's not a bad thing, because all of the people he has contributing to this book have had great
online success with an idea that on the surface makes one say "hey, that's simple, why didn't I think of that".
Here's the thing about a book like this, one that I debated with a friend of mine. It's not the type of book that you can just sit
down, follow step by step, and make a whole lot of money. You still have to come up with your own idea, do a lot of research,
spend a lot of time, some money, and have a lot of heart and passion, and in the end you have the opportunity to do pretty well;
just like every other business. Unfortunately, since the book was written in 2001, many of the sites he mentions in the book are
no longer around, so you can't validate some of what he says, though there is a newer version, which I link to above. Some others
are, as I ended up signing for the newsletter of the Ezine queen, Alexandria K. Brown
because she's the real deal.
Also, one thing that I had a problem with, and it just may be "my" problem, is that he talks about a campaign he launched with only
5 emails that was very successful for him, but I believed wouldn't work for many other people because he came into the process as a
known entity. I mean, by 2000, who hadn't heard of Robert Allen? So, if you received
email from Robert Allen about the launch of a new product that might make you a lot of money, you'd have been more apt to at least
listen to what he had to say than if you'd received an email from Lenny Smith of Prado, Idaho. Of course he, like every other
internet sales guru in the world, talks about the importance of creating large email lists so that you can have the opportunity
of making online sales.
In the end, I took away this one theme;
Multiple
Streams of Income, which was the term from one of his bestsellers of the same title. Very few people make real money from
one website in online sales; it takes multiple sites, sometimes working in conjunction with each other, sometimes working against
each other, but always working in some fashion to make you money. It really is all about the numbers when it comes to having an
online business.
I recommend Multiple Streams of Internet Income to anyone who wants to glean ideas on how others have made it big in some
fashion through online sales. Some of the ideas are dated by today's standards, yet they're still worth reading, because some of
the mistakes have also already been made by others.
