Success University

I got caught up on the buzz about Success University when it was first coming out because it seemed to be on the lips of every single internet marketing guru whose newsletter I subscribed to. So, I decided to do some checking on it throughout the internet, and I couldn't find anyone saying anything bad about it. To be fair, at the time the only people talking about it at all were all gurus of some sort.

At the time, it only cost $2 to join for two weeks. It had a dual purpose. One, it was supposed to be kind of an online university, where you could go in and listen to all these sound clips of not only internet marketing experts, but motivational clips from many famous people, including Les Brown and others. The second purpose was as an affiliate program, where you could have people sign up under you through a link the site created for you, so that you could earn money off them, and they could earn money off others, which you'd get a piece of, etc. In that way, it sounds somewhat like a pyramid scheme, but I guess it passed the test of legality, so it was on.

Almost immediately after joining, I started getting a ton of emails saying someone had joined and was in my down line, which somehow meant I should be making money off them. I also had a couple of people I knew join, and they would be my direct affiliates, which could earn me even more money; none of that sounded bad.

But, oddly enough, I didn't join to make money as much as I wanted access to the files. And when I finally got a chance to see what they had, it looked really impressive. And that's the major word here, "looked". They had multiple categories, and some of the sound files were in more than one category, which works out just fine. There weren't as many files as I had thought they might have, with so many people promoting the thing, but I figured they'd be adding more as they went along. The first one I listened to was pretty good. However, none of the other three files I wanted to listen to worked, and that was really disappointing. Then in another category, they had it set up where you could only listen to one file in that category a month; that's where they were trying to promote themselves as a university, where certain blocks would be extended over a period of time like a course.

I found that problematic also, but then I realized why. The basic idea was that they wanted you, and others, to be full subscribers to the program, which would cost you about $50 a month. You didn't have unlimited access each month, as they said they wanted you to listen, then act, on the files instead of just sitting down listening to them all and doing nothing. On the surface that sound pretty good, but in reality, some people learn quicker than others, and, when some of the files are more motivational than actual learning, I didn't feel those files should count the same as others.

And then I learned how the reimbursement part of Success University worked. In reading the FAQ (frequently asked questions), reading on the FAQ, it stated that you were required to continue bringing people in, unless you can bring in 6 people in one month, in order to earn any money at all, and those people had to stay members at least two months for you to qualify for any money. Since I'm not that good at the recruiting thing, I felt like I'd just be throwing money away.

Truthfully, if they'd had more files, and I could have listened to them whenever I wanted to, and they all worked, I might have stayed longer in the program. But I got out before my two weeks were up, canceling so I wouldn't get hit with the $50 fee. And they tell you that, once you've dropped out, you're not allowed to come back; that's okay with me.

These people made a lot of money, and they're still going, but I haven't seen an email promoting the site in a very long time. It's still hard to find many bad reviews for the site, because, when you go to Google, most of the links you come to are either people promoting Success University, or from Success University themselves. I did find this one link, though, on EzNetMarketing, which offers another review of the program, and fully agrees with my take on it, that being if you already know how to market and get a lot of people interested in something, you will make money from this; if not, you're wasting both your time and your money.
