The Secret

The Secret is a DVD release was a phenomenon from the day it was released back in 2005. Originally only able to be purchased from the main company based in Australia, it has gained buyers now that it's in the American market a hundred fold, and with good reason.

The Secret
The Secret itself isn't really a secret anymore; the secret is the concept known as the law of attraction. In essence, its principle is that whatever you wish for, whatever you feel you really want, whatever you concentrate on with all your heart and feeling,… you will bring into your life in abundance. On the back of the DVD I own are these words: "This is the secret to everything - joy, health, money, relationships, love, happiness… everything you have ever wanted."

Anyway, the reason this movie really hit home is that it's visually stunning, and the music moves you emotionally, not in a physical sense like dance music might. It's a very uplifting movie, and it just makes you feel good. It's the kind of movie that you'll want to watch over and over because the concepts it talks about just can't be absorbed totally with one viewing. I've watched this movie at least 35 times now, and every time I watch it, I seem to pick up something new.

Some of the experts in the movie are amazing. I'm not going to list them all, but some of the names were fairly well known: Jack Canfield of Chicken Soup fame, John Gray of Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus fame, Joe Vitale, one of the top internet marketers in the world, Rev. Michael Beckwith - Agape International Spiritual Center, and Bob Proctor, a philosopher who's one of the top speakers, authors, and life coaches in America, are just a few that participated in this. Esther Hicks of Abraham-Hicks participated in the original version, but due to a difference of opinion on the marketing of The Secret movie she and her organization pulled out once the movie was ready to be distributed to a larger market.

There are also some wonderful personal stories in this movie. There's one lady who overcame cancer by deciding to change her mindset and watching funny movies. There's another person, Morris Goodman, known as the Miracle Man because he crashed his plane, was told he'd never walk again nor breathe on his own again, who set in his mind that he'd be walking out of the hospital on Christmas Day, and did. And you have one of the experts, John Assaraf, who tells the story of having the picture of a house on what he calls his vision board, and unknown to him, five years later he was living in that exact house.

As with everything, there are some detractors who believe this movie sets people up to fail in their lives, or may convince someone to try to just wish for everything without doing any work. As one of the experts in the movie said, one can't just dream for something and hope it comes true. One has to also work towards their dreams and goals, set themselves up along the path towards attaining what they wish for. This line must have been missed by those folks, if they watched the movie at all. The Secret is a story overall about thinking positively, working positively, and allowing good things to come into your life. It also says that sometimes these things take time, depending on what it is you're wishing for. They illustrated this comically by showing a guy thinking about an elephant, and suddenly having the elephant appear in his living room, droppings and all.

Do you think I wouldn't recommend a movie I've seen 35 times? The movie being sold now is being called an extended version, which means they added some new things while removing some other things. It's still one of the most motivating pieces of film I've ever seen, and one I wish they'd show in elementary school, high school, or college. The Secret really is all that, and more.
